Blackberry Yum Yum Recipe

Y'all. Mmmm Mmmm Good. My love for blackberries traces back to when my mom used to take us to Kings Orchrid in Tomball, Texas to pick them fresh for pies. We would wear our oldest t-shirts and somehow all came home covered in purple stain. I hope y'all fall in love with this yummy pie as much as I have! Lets start..

You can find all of the ingrenients at your local grocery store, but if you like to cook, the ingrenients are probiably already on your pantry shelf! Since we are making this from scratch It turns out to be very cost efficent.

What I jammed to while baking:

Dixie Chicks Wide Open Spaces Album

Ingredients:

-3 cups flour

-1/2 teaspoon salt

-7-8 tablespoons of ice cold water

-8-9 tablespoons of Crisco brand All Vegtable shortening

-1/4 cup room temperature water

-1/4 cup sugar

-1 tablespoon butter

-2 large packages of fresh blackberries. (The more red color they have to them, and the bigger the bulbs on them the sweeter they are)

Directions:

Measure out all of your ingredients that way when it comes time to needing them you are scrambling.

In your favorite mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and your salt. Next scoop in the shortening one tablespoon at a time. Then get ready to get hands on and combine everything till you have pea sized peices.

Like this.. Next add in your ice cold water until you get a nice dough ball.

Then divide it in half. This way you have a top and a bottom for your pie.

Next we are going to roll out the dough. I dont have a fancy machine. Just me and my trusty rolling pin. Which by the way if you cant afford a body massage me and my roommates have discovered the art of pin rolling therapy. Of course wash your roller after using it as a massaging device.

Now we are going to cook the filling of the pie. Make sure you roll out your second dough ball and set it to the side for later, it will become the lid to our pie.

In a large pot on medium heat combine 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon butter, and 1 tablespoon flour.

Add all of your washed blackberries and carefully stir. You just want to mix the two together enought to where your berries have a nice coating on them.

Then slowly pour the contents of the pot into your pie pan. Next, lay your top crust over and press edges so they join.

Next we are going to make a little glaze. Combine the whites of one egg, and a dash of milk into a bowl and mix. Get yourself a little cooking paint bush and channel your inner artist.

If your little heart desires, you can add cute decor for any season or reason. This time I did stars, but it would be cute to change it up for the Holiday season! With the extra dough that you may have needed to trip off the edges, use any shaped cookie cutter and create your masterpeice. Use the glaze as glue for the dough decorations.

Once you have glazed your decorations down, use the remaining glaze to coat the top of the pie. This will give you the golden brown look every pie needs to look complete. Sprinkle a dash of sugar over then entire pie and press a fork in the edges if desired. Also dont forget to cut some holes in the middle so your pie doesn't explode (:

ENJOY!

Preheat your oven to 375, and bake the pie for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.
